The three Muslim empires faced powerful threats from Western imperialists, and through diplomacy and military threats, European powers won treaties which gave them favorable trading terms. They then demanded special rights for Europeans residing in Muslim lands.

2. How were efforts to Westernize problematic for the Ottoman empire?
Well the efforts to Westernize was problematic for the Ottoman empire because with better healthcare it resulted in a population explosion that increased the already intense competition for the best land and led to unrest. Which also increased tension, and many of the officials had objected the changes because they were inspired by a foreign culture.

Well Egypt fell under British control because when the Egyptian nationalists had revolted against the foreign influence in 1882, Britain had made Egypt a protectorate.

4. How did Persia attract foreign interest in the early 1900s?
Persian had attracted foreign interest in the early 1900’s because that was the time that Persia had discovered oil. So everyone wanted to be apart of that, because you make a lot of money with oil. So if they helped them they were probably thinking that the Persians would give them some money for helping them. Even though Russia and Britain were trying to take control of the Persian oil fields.
